Inspired by using benzene rings as a tracer in fat metabolism, Hevesy utilized a radioactive isotope of lead to measure the concentration of lead compounds, which had identical chemical properties to ordinary lead. This technique proved to be highly effective for tracing lead in various substances and was later utilized in biochemical studies.
