The stellarator is a figure-8 shaped device designed to confine hot hydrogen using a magnetic field to allow controlled nuclear fusion as a source of peaceful energy. This invention aimed to harness the vast energy of nuclear fusion, which far exceeds that of fission. It was not successful.
