Electrophoresis is a technique for separating and isolating protein components in a mixture. Imposing an electric field on the solution, negative and positive particles will begin to separate at speeds proportional to their overall charge. Then, using a specially designed tube, lenses, and photography, subcomponent speed can be measured by observing changes in light refraction.
