Corticoids

The adrenal glands consist of two parts: the inner part (medulla) creates epinephrine but the outer part (cortex) also creates a variety of hormones. Kendall identified 28 which he named after letters. These corticoids, particularly Compound E (cortisone), were discovered and used as anti-inflammatory drugs.
